This guide describes the StudentPlus Portal web application used by students to view class information and communicate with teachers.

From your StudentPlus Portal, you can view recent scores, grades, report cards, and assignments. You can also access Class pages, take quizzes, participate in class discussions, join online meetings, and submit assignments. You can view school announcements, alerts, and calendar events, and communicate with teachers using email or messages.

The features available to you in your portal depend on the permissions set by your school administrator.

Get Started

This chapter introduces you to your student portal with account activation and login instructions, steps for changing your password, and an overview of portal features.

To get started, see the following tasks.

Activate Your Student Portal Account

If you've never accessed your PlusPortals, log in to the PlusPortals website using the credentials your school provides. You will be instructed to change your temporary password to activate your account.

To activate your student portal, follow these steps:

  1. In your browser address bar, type your PlusPortals URL.

    Your PlusPortals URL is located at plusportals.com/YourSchoolName. For example, the URL for "Rediker Academy" would be plusportals.com/RedikerAcademy. You can find your school's URL by looking on your school's website or by asking a school administrator.

  2. In the Loginbox, type your UserNameand temporary Password, then click Sign In.

    Your temporary password is in the PlusPortals activation e-mail. If you did not receive this e-mail, contact a school administrator.

    Before accessing your portal, you are directed to reset your temporary password.
  3. On the change password page, type your temporary password in the Currentpasswordbox.

  4. Type your new password in the New password box. This password must contain the following:

    • At least one lower-case letter

    • At least one upper-case letter

    • At least one number

    • A minimum of eight characters

  5. Type your new password in the Confirm new password box, then click Change Password.

    Failure to create a new password can be the result of any of the following conditions:

    • The NewPasswordand ConfirmPasswordinputs don’t match. A warning that "the new password and confirmation password do not match" appears in red.

    • The NewPassworddoesn't meet one or more of the security requirements. The unfulfilled requirement(s) appear in red.

  6. Once any issues are resolved, click ChangePassword.

Log in to your Student Portal

To log in to your student portal, follow these steps:

  1. In your browser address bar, type your PlusPortals URL.

    Your PlusPortals URL is located at plusportals.com/YourSchoolName. For example, the URL for "Rediker Academy" would be plusportals.com/RedikerAcademy. You can find your school's URL by looking on your school's website or by asking a school administrator.

  2. Depending on your school's PlusPortals setup, the Login page or advanced Login page appears. In the Loginbox, type your UserName and Password.
    If you don't have a user name and password, follow the instructions in the activation email from your school or reach out to your school to request your username and password.
  3. Click Sign In.

    If you forgot your password, click Can’t access your account. If you're unable to reset your password, contact your school.

Change your Password

You can change your password using the following steps:

  1. On the User menu, click [Your Name] > Change Password.

    You will only see Change Password if permitted by your school.

  2. In Current password, type the password you're currently using.

  3. In New password, type the password you want to use.

    Passwords must contain at least one lower-case letter, one upper-case letter, one number, and a minimum of eight characters.

  4. In Confirm new password, type the new password again.

  5. Click Change Password to save your changes.

Portal Overview

When you log in to your student portal, you see the User menu, the Master menu Home tab, and the Overview tab. The Overview tab combines the most frequently used PlusPortals features. Information is organized by panel.

On most panels, you can click StudentPlus Portal Web Application (5)to view the corresponding tab.

For any options listed below that you do not see in your Student Portal, your school may not have allowed the permissions to view these sections.

User Menu, Master Menu, and Student Notifications

A

On the User menu, you can perform the following tasks:

  • TeacherLists: View lists of supplies required for your classes and order those supplies directly from retailers.
  • Purchase Books: Access an online bookstore to view your book-lists and order books for your classes.
  • Groups: View all groups you are a member of.
  • Newsfeed: View upcoming school, class, and group communications, as well as class assignments.
  • Click the arrow next to your name to edit your demographic information, change your password, and edit email notification and school directory preferences.
  • Help: View Rediker Software user guides and videos.
  • Logout: Exit the PlusPortals.

On the Master menu, you can perform the following tasks:

  • Calendar: View Events on the school calendar.
  • Course Requests: View, approve, and submit Course Request Forms.
  • Alerts: View the Alerts, Announcements, and Notifications tabs.
  • Email and Messages: View and send Emails and/or Messages.
  • Directory: View Student, Parent, and Staff information provided by your school.
  • E-Locker: View your submitted coursework and portfolio, and submit coursework.
  • Access online Forms.

On the top of the Home page, you can see the following notification icons:

Overview Tab Features

On the top of the Overview tab, you can quickly access two other tabs:

  • Classroom: Select a class and view the Class Page, your teacher's Lesson Plans, your Performance in the class, and any available Progress Reports.
  • School: View your class Schedule(s), your Report Card(s), and your Attendance, Discipline, and Demographic data.

On the first row of the Overview tab, you can access information from the Performance tab on the Classroom page:

  • Progress: View class averages and grades.
    (See View Grades.)
  • Recent Scores: View the results of your most recent graded assignments.

On the second row of the Overview tab, you can access information from the Attendance and Discipline tabs on the School page:

  • Attendance Totals: View a list of absence and tardy totals.
  • Incidents: View discipline incident dates and descriptions.

Overview Tab Features

Coursework: View all work assigned in your classes. By default, this panel lists work due in the next 14 days. You can adjust the courswork you see using the filters in the panel header. You can click StudentPlus Portal Web Application (14) to open a browser window containing a printer-friendly list of the coursework currently listed in this panel. From this new window, you can click Print to print a physical copy or export to PDF.

School Links and Files: View files or links shared by your school.
In the drop-down list, select a different folder to see additional items. Click StudentPlus Portal Web Application (15) to navigate between pages of items. Click StudentPlus Portal Web Application (16)to select how many items display per page.

Calendar: View a list of all current and upcoming events on your school calendar.
This list displays every event type. Click StudentPlus Portal Web Application (17)to view details for a calendar event.

On the last row of the Overview tab, you can access information from the Announcements , Alerts, and Notifications tabs on the Alertspage:
  • Notifications and Alerts: Review school-wide notifications and alerts. Alerts display in red to indicate a higher importance. Click StudentPlus Portal Web Application (18)to view details for a notification or alert.
  • School Announcements: Review school-wide announcements.

View Your Class Pages

The class page contains the coursework, quizzes, announcements, class resources, discussions, and online meetings your teacher has posted for their class.

To view your teacher's class page, follow these steps:

  1. On the Master menu, click Home.
  2. Click Classroom.
  3. Select a class from the Class drop-down list, and then click Class Page.

    On the Overview tab Progress panel, you can open a Class page by clicking the class in the Subject column.

The Class Summary Panel

The Class Page tab opens with the Class Summary panel at the top. To view a different class, select a new class name in the Class drop-down list.StudentPlus Portal Web Application (21)

The Coursework Panel

The Coursework panel displays assignments, quizzes, and discussions for the selected class.

The Class Announcements and Alerts panel displays communications from your teacher.

The Links and Files panels display links and files posted by your teacher.

View Class Coursework

To view assignments, quizzes, and discussions for a class, follow these steps:

  1. On the Master menu, click Home.
  2. Click Classroom.
  3. Select the class from the Class drop-down list, and then click Class Page.

    On the Overview tab Progress panel, you can open a Class page by clicking the class in the Subjectcolumn.

  4. Scroll down to the Coursework panel.
  5. See the diagram and table below for details on the Coursework panel.

    On the Class page Coursework panel, you only see coursework for the class you're viewing.

Coursework Panel

A

By default, coursework due in the next 14 days appears in the Coursework panel. You can change the coursework you see by filtering on upcoming, past due, pending, completed, or all coursework.

View all types of coursework, or view just assignments, quizzes, or discussions.

Click a title to view coursework details.

View the due date.

Coursework due in the next two days displays "Tomorrow" or "Today" and coursework due today is highlighted orange.

View Class Announcements and Alerts

To view announcements and alerts for a class, follow these steps:

  1. On the Master menu, click Home.
  2. Click Classroom.
  3. Select a class from the Class drop-down list, and then click Class Page.

To view files and links your teacher has posted to a class, follow these steps:

  1. On the Master menu, click Home.
  2. Click Classroom.
  3. Select a class from the Class drop-down list, and then click Class Page.

Join an Online Meeting

You can view and join online meetings your teacher schedules by following these steps:

  1. On the Master menu, click Home.
  2. On the Overview tab, scroll down to the Online Meetings panel.

View all your meetings or only meetings for the current day.

Reply to Discussions

You can reply to discussions from the Coursework panel on the Overview tab or on the Class page. On the Overview tab, you can view discussions for all your classes or a selected class. On the Class page, you can view discussions for the selected class.

From the Overview Tab

To reply to a discussion from the Coursework panel on the Overview tab, follow these steps:

  1. On the Master menu, click Home.
  2. Scroll down to the Coursework panel.
  3. Set the following filters to display the discussions you want to view:

    Select All Classes or a specific class.

    Select Upcoming Coursework, Past Due Coursework, Pending Coursework, Completed Coursework, or All Coursework.

  4. In the Actions column for the discussion, click StudentPlus Portal Web Application (37) or StudentPlus Portal Web Application (38) > Go to Discussion.

    You can click StudentPlus Portal Web Application (39) > Go to Link or Download Files to view a link or file.

  5. Click Reply to Topic.

  6. Type your reply. Using the text editor, you can format the text and add links, images, and tables.

  7. Click Submit to post your reply.
    Discussions can have up to eight levels of reply, each indented and time-stamped. To see the exact date and time a reply was left, hover your mouse over the time stamp.
    To edit or delete your reply, click StudentPlus Portal Web Application (41) > Edit Reply or Delete Reply.

From the Class Page

To reply to a discussion from the Coursework panel on the Class page, follow these steps:

  1. On the Master menu, click Home.
  2. Click Classroom.
  3. In the Class drop-down list, select the class, and then click Class Page.

    On the Overview tab Progress panel, you can open a Class page by clicking the class in the Subject column.

  4. Scroll down to the Coursework panel.
  5. Set the following filters to display the class discussions:

Coursework

The following tasks are related to viewing and submitting assignments and taking quizzes posted to a class page:

View All Coursework

To view assignments, quizzes, and discussions for all your classes, follow these steps:

  1. On the Master menu, click Home.
  2. Scroll down to the Coursework panel.
  3. See the diagram and table below for a description of the Coursework panel.

Take Quizzes

You can take quizzes from the Coursework panel on the Overview tab or on the Class page. On the Overview tab, you can access quizzes for all your classes or a selected class. On the Class page, you can access quizzes for the selected class.

To take a quiz from the Coursework panel on the Overview tab, follow these steps:

To take a quiz from the Class Page, select Classroom > Select the class from the drop-down list, then click Class Page.

  1. On the Master menu, click Home.
  2. Scroll down to the Coursework panel.
  3. Set the following filters to display the quizzes you want to view:

  4. In the Actions column for the quiz, click StudentPlus Portal Web Application (55) > Take Quiz. A dialog box opens, displaying the quiz title, description, and due date. If your teacher has set a time limit for the quiz, the time appears next to Duration.

  5. Click Start Quiz.The Quizpanel opens on the quiz you selected.

    You can save and exit an unfinished quiz by clicking Save, clicking StudentPlus Portal Web Application (57) in the upper-right corner of the Quiz panel, and then clicking Yes. If the quiz is timed, the time you have left is saved.

Quiz Panel

View the quiz due date and the number of questions you've answered.

For timed quizzes, you also see the total time you have to take the quiz and the amount of time you have left.

When you're finished taking the quiz, submit your answers.

If you run out of time, the following message appears and your saved answers are automatically submitted:

If you leave any questions unanswered, the following message appears. Click Yes to submit the quiz or click Noto return to the quiz.

View questions for a section. On the Sections tab, the StudentPlus Portal Web Application (61)changes to StudentPlus Portal Web Application (62) when you start a section. A StudentPlus Portal Web Application (63)indicates you've completed the section.

To view a question, click a number. Green question numbers indicate questions you've answered.

To change an answer, click the question number, make the change, and then click Save or Save & Continue.

Depending on the question type, do one of the following:

  • Select the correct answer from a drop-down list (as shown in the diagram).
  • Click True or False.
  • Type your answer.

For essay questions, you can use the text editor to format your text; add hyperlinks, tables, and images; and upload files. For a question that requires a file attachment, click Select Files and (optionally) type a description for the file.

Save your answer. The question number turns green.

You can move to another question by clicking a question number or you can leave the quiz by clicking StudentPlus Portal Web Application (64) in the upper-right corner of the Quiz panel.

When you exit an unfinished timed quiz, your remaining time is saved.

Save your answer and move to the next question. The question number turns green.

Submit Assignments

You can submit assignments from the Overview tab Coursework panel or the Class page Coursework panel. On the Overview tab Coursework panel, you can view assignments for all your classes or a selected class. On the Class page Coursework panel, you can view assignments for the selected class.

From the Overview Tab Coursework Panel

To submit an assignment from the Overview tab Coursework panel, follow these steps:

  1. On the Master menu, click Home.
  2. Scroll down to the Coursework panel.
  3. Set the following filters to display all assignments:

    Select All Classes or a specific class.

To submit an assignment from the Class page Coursework panel, follow these steps:

  1. On the Master menu, click Home.
  2. Click Classroom.
  3. Select the class from the Class drop-down list, and then click Class Page.

Email Your Teacher About an Assignment or a Quiz

You can email your teacher about an assignment or a quiz from the Overview tab Coursework panel or the Class page Coursework panel.

To email your teacher about an assignment or a quiz from the Coursework panel, follow these steps

  1. On the Master menu, click Home.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • Click Classroom >Select the class from the Class drop-down list, and then click Class Page.
    • From the Overview Tab, Scroll down to the Coursework panel.
  3. Set the following filters for the coursework you want to view:

  4. In the Actions column for the assignment or quiz, click StudentPlus Portal Web Application (79) > E-Mail Teacher.

Grades and Scores

See the following topics for details on viewing recent scores and grades and viewing your report card.

View Grades

To view your grades, and access additional information about them, follow these steps:

You will only see grades for a class if permitted by your school administrator and/or the teacher.

  1. On the Master menu, click Home.
  2. On the Progress panel, select the marking period from the drop-down list.
    The grades for the selected marking period appear.
  3. On the Progress panel, you can click the data in each column to access more information:

    Click a subject name to access the Class Page for that subject.

    B - Average/Grade

    Click an average (100 in the example above) or a grade (A+ in the example above) to access the Progress panel

View Recent Scores

To view recent scores for all your classes, click Home on the Master menu and find the Recent Scores panel.

Important: You will only see scores if permitted by your school administrator and/or the teacher.

The Recent Scores panel displays the date the coursework was graded and the number of points you earned out of the number of possible points. Click StudentPlus Portal Web Application (83)to open the Performance tab, which displays details of your performance in a selected class.

View Your Report Card

To view your report card, follow these steps:

You will only see report cards if permitted by your school administrator.

  1. On the Master menu, click Home.
  2. Click School.
  3. Click Report Card.

    Because your school administrator determines what is included on the Report Card tab, you may not see all the information described below.

You can view your overall performance for a class as well as progress reports posted by your teachers.

View Your Performance in a Class

To view your performance in a class, follow these steps:

  1. On the Master menu, click Home.
  2. Click Classroom.
  3. From the Class drop-down list, select a class.
  4. Click Performance.

Summary

At the top of the Performancetab, you can view general information about the selected class, such as the teacher, meeting time, and length. The table displays your average score and grade for each marking period.

View Class Progress Reports

To view your progress reports for a class, follow these steps:

  1. On the Master menu, clickHome.
  2. ClickClassroom.
  3. From theClassdrop-down list, select a class.
  4. Click Progress Reports.

The information included in your progress report is determined by the school administrator and your teacher.

View general information about the class the progress report is for.

View progress reports for a selected class or view a combined progress report, which includes a summary of your progress in all classes as well as a detailed progress report for each of class.

Download the progress report.

Print the progress report.

Click the marking period and progress report you want to view.

View your grade and average for the current marking period.

View your grade and average for the current marking period and any completed marking periods.

View teacher comments for the selected marking period.

Lesson Plans

The following tasks are related to viewing and submitting assignments, viewing resources, and taking quizzes posted to a lesson plan.

View Coursework Posted to a Lesson Plan

You can view assignments and quizzes your teacher has posted to a lesson plan from the Overview tab Coursework panel or from the Lesson Plan tab.

To view coursework from the Lesson Plan tab, follow these steps:

  1. On the Master menu, click Home.
  2. Click Classroom.
  3. From the Class drop-down list, select a class.
  4. Click Lesson Plans.
  5. Click a unit.
  6. Click a lesson.

  8. For an assignment or quiz, click StudentPlus Portal Web Application (99) to view details.

View Lesson Plan Resources

You can view links and files your teacher has posted to a lesson plan by following these steps:

  1. On the Master menu, click Home.
  2. Click Classroom.
  3. From the Class drop-down list, select a class.
  4. Click Lesson Plans.
  5. Click a unit.
  6. Click a lesson.

  8. In the Resource Name column, click the link or file you want to view.

Take a Lesson Plan Quiz

You can take a quiz your teacher has posted to a lesson plan from the Coursework panel on the Overview tab or from the Lesson Plan tab.

Tip: To take a lesson plan quiz from the Coursework panel on the Overview tab, see Take Quizzes.

  1. On the Master menu, click Home.
  2. Click Classroom.
  3. From the Class drop-down list, select a class.
  4. Click Lesson Plans.
  5. Click a unit.
  6. Click a lesson.

  7. Scroll down to the Activities panel.
  8. In the View column, click StudentPlus Portal Web Application (104).

    A dialog box opens, displaying the quiz title, description, and due date. If your teacher has set a time limit for the quiz, the time appears next to Duration.

  9. Click Start Quiz. The Quizpanel opens on the quiz you selected.

    You can exit an unfinished quiz by clicking Save and then clicking StudentPlus Portal Web Application (107) in the upper-right corner of the Quiz panel. If the quiz is timed, the time you have left is saved.

View general quiz information, such as the unit and lesson the quiz is assigned to and the due date.

For timed quizzes, you also see the total time you have to take the quiz.

For the section you're in, view the number of questions you've answered. For timed quizzes, you also see the amount of time you have left before the quiz is automatically submitted.
Note: If you run out of time, the following message appears and your saved answers are automatically submitted:

If you leave any questions unanswered, the message below appears. Click Yes to submit the quiz or click Noto return to the quiz:

When you're finished taking the quiz, submit your answers.

View questions for a section.

On the Sections tab, the StudentPlus Portal Web Application (111) changes to StudentPlus Portal Web Application (112) when you start a section. A StudentPlus Portal Web Application (113)indicates you've completed the section.

To view a question, click a number. Green question numbers indicate questions you've answered.

To change an answer, click the question number, make the change, and then click Save or Save & Continue.

Depending on the question type, do one of the following:

  • Select the correct answer from a drop-down list (as shown in the diagram).
  • Click True or False.
  • Type your answer.

For essay questions, you can use the text editor to format your text; add hyperlinks, tables, and images; and upload files. For a question that requires a file attachment, click Select Files and (optionally) type a description for the file.

Save your answer. The question number turns green.

You can move to another question by clicking a question number or you can leave the quiz by clicking StudentPlus Portal Web Application (114) in the upper-right corner of the Quiz panel.

When you exit an unfinished timed quiz, your remaining time is saved.

H

Save your answer and move to the next question. The question number turns green.

Submit Assignments from E-Locker

To submit an assignment using E-Locker, follow these steps. Lesson plan assignments must be submitted using E-Locker.

  1. On the Master menu, click E-Locker.

    You will only see E-Locker if permitted by your school administrator.

  2. On the Assignments tab, click Upload.
    The Assignment dialog box opens.

Select the class the assignment is posted to, or view assignments for another class.

Select the assignment.

Optional: Type a description for the assignment.

Optional: Type your comments.

Optional: Type additional information for the assignment. You can use the text editor to format the content and add a hyperlink or table.

Optional: Attach a file by selecting it in the Files drop-down list.

To delete a file, click StudentPlus Portal Web Application (117).

G

Optional: Add a link by clicking Add New and typing or copying the Link URL. In Link Text, you can type text that replaces the link URL.

H

Submit the assignment.

School Communication

In addition to viewing school-wide announcements, alerts, and notifications, you can communicate with teachers and other school staff by sending e-mails or messages. To learn more, see the appropriate section below.

View School Announcements, Alerts, and Notifications

This topic describes different options for viewing school-wide announcements, alerts, and notifications. You can view each type of school-wide communication from the Home tab, the Alerts tab, or the Newsfeed page.

You will only see these options if your school administrator has enabled them.

The Home Tab

To view announcements, notifications, and alerts from the Home tab, follow these steps:

  1. On the Master menu, click Home.
  2. Scroll down to the Notifications and Alerts or School Announcements panel.
  3. To view details for a posting, click StudentPlus Portal Web Application (118).

The Alerts Tab

To view announcements, notifications, and alerts from the Alerts tab, follow these steps:

  1. On the Master menu, click Alerts.
  2. Click Announcements, Alerts, or Notifications.

The Newsfeed Page

To view announcements, notifications, and alerts from the Newsfeed page, follow these steps:

  1. On the User menu, click Newsfeed.
  2. On the School Announcements, Notifications, and Alerts panel, click StudentPlus Portal Web Application (124) for a posting to view more information.

Customize the number of items displayed on the page by clicking StudentPlus Portal Web Application (126). Use StudentPlus Portal Web Application (127)to navigate between pages.

Panels containing Class Announcements and Alerts, Group Announcements and Alerts, and Assignments also appear in your Newsfeed.

View and Send E-Mails

You can send e-mails to and receive e-mails from teachers, school administrators, and group members. Your e-mails are delivered to the recipients' personal e-mail and portal e-mail.

If you don't have an email account, you can communicate with teachers and school administrators using messages.

To view and send e-mails, follow these steps:

  1. On the Master menu, click E-Mail & Messages or E-Mail. The E-Mailtab opens.

    You will only see the E-Mail & Messages tab or the E-Mail tab if your school administrator has enabled it.

View and Send Messages

You can send portal messages to and receive portal messages from teachers and school administrators. Because messages are viewed in and sent from the portal, messages provide a means of communicating with your school when you don't have an e-mail account.

To view and send messages, follow these steps:

  1. On the Master menu, click E-Mail & Messages or Messages. You will only see the E-Mail & Messages tab or the Messages tab if your school administrator has enabled it.
  2. If not already displayed, click the Messages tab.

You can set up your portal to receive updates on class, group, and school communications as well as grades, assignments, and attendance. For details, see the topics below.

Receive Automated Communications from Your School, Teachers, and Groups

You can automatically receive class, group, and school announcements. The information is emailed to you as a report. You specify the information you want included in the report and how often you want to receive it.

Follow these steps to set up automatic email notifications:

  1. On the User menu, click [Your Name] > E-Mail Notifications.

    You will only see E-Mail Notifications if your school administrator enables it.
